The Saint Joseph's College women's alpine ski team kicked off the 2023 season with a second place finish in a giant slalom race at Black Mountain on Saturday. The Monks tallied 29 place points with a 4:01.36 composite time.
UMaine-Farmington earned the team title with six place points and a 3:44.12 total time to snap the Monks' 15-race regular-season winning streak, which began with a slalom victory at Titcomb on February 21st, 2021. The Beavers featured all three athletes at the podium, as Grace Mahmood (1:13.65), Lauren Kessen (1:14.36), and Tegan Andrew (1:16.11) placed first, second, and third, respectively.
THE RUNDOWN:
- Sophomore Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) placed fifth with a 1:16.63 (39.63, 37.00) effort and registered the third-fastest time on the second run (37.00)
- Junior Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine) was 10th with a 1:20.67 (40.88, 39.79) time
- Freshman Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) posted a 1:24.06 (44.40, 39.66) time and placed 14th in her collegiate debut
- Sophomore Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine) was 16th (1:24.73, 43.15 – 41.58)
- Junior Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.) notched the eighth-fastest time (37.96) on the second run after posting a DNF on the first
- Junior Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) crashed on the first run and did not compete in the second
