The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph's College grad student Austin Ward (Exeter, N.H.) has been selected as the GNAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week.
Ward claims the weekly award after scoring six goals in a pair of conference wins last week. In a 9-1 win at Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday, he netted five markers to break the Monks' single-game records for goals and points (10). On Saturday, Ward converted a penalty kick early in a 2-1 triumph at Lasell University.
Ward's impressive five-goal performance broke the program's marks previously held by his former teammate, Brett Mattos '19, who netted four goals for eight total points in a win over Suffolk University on September 30th, 2017.
For Ward, the GNAC weekly honor is the second of his career and first since he garnered GNAC Rookie of the Week acclaim on October 22nd, 2018.
In 14 games so far this fall, Ward has scored 12 goals with three assists for 27 total points. He currently leads the conference in goals and PK goals (3) and ranks second in points and game-clinchers (3).
In 74 career games, Ward has scored 33 goals with 16 assists for 82 points and eight game-winning markers. He ranks third in SJC men's soccer history in goals, points, and shots (185), fourth in game winners, and fifth in assists.
Saint Joseph's (10-3-1, 9-1-0 GNAC) will host Rivier University on Wednesday in a GNAC contest set to start at 5:00 PM.
