The Polar Bears competed in five regattas this past weekend including the Open and Women's Singlehanded New England Championship, the Hatch Brown Trophy at MIT, the Regis Trophy at Harvard, and the Barnett Trophy at Bowdoin.
All the events this weekend, excluding the Singlehanded Championship, were Saturday only. Ten races were completed in each division at the Hatch Brown and the Regis Trophy. The Polar Bears had a solid event at MIT with good boathandling and decent boatspeed. Chris Lukens and Timmy Gee sailed A-division, Tbo Antonietti and Meg Gonzalez sailed B-division, and Thomas Hall and Hattie Slayton sailed C-division, finishing seventh overall out of the 18 teams competing. At Harvard, Lizzy Kaplan and Sophie Brett sailed A-division with Kyra Phelan and Brooke Asherman competing in B-division. The team had some great races but also struggled a bit a times but ultimately finished eleventh overall out of the eighteen teams competing.
At Bowdoin, the Polar Bears hosted the annual Nicholas Barnett Trophy in windy and wavy conditions on Harpswell Sound. Three teams from Bowdoin competed in the event, finishing first, fifth, and eleventh overall out of sixteen teams. Competing for Bowdoin was Sam Bonauto, Holliss Hirsch, Lauren Russler, Lulu Louchheim, Jonathan Chance, Caleb Adams Hull, Isabelle Tsuchitori, Teagan Cunningham, Jondall Norris, Charlie Apolinski, Lucas Johnson, Aidan Michelow, Alex Kitay, Katie Kurtz, and Lucy Dutton.
The first New England Championships of the fall season took place at Brown this weekend. Ethan Danielson and Ben Stevens competed in the open division and Christine Reimer competed in the women's division. Racing was delayed on Saturday but a solid sea breeze eventually filled in allowing for five races on Saturday. Sunday was much shiftier and windy. Ben Stevens and Ethan Danielson finished fourteenth and fifteenth respectively out of 27 boats. Christine Reimer finished third out of ten boats. The selection for singlehanded nationals will take place later on this season. This upcoming weekend, the team will compete in the Harvard Invite, the Hood Trophy, the Hoyt Trophy, and the Mrs. Hurst Bowl.
