Bowdoin College Williams Uses Late Surge to Tip Women's Basketball

The Williams College women's basketball team closed the game on a 14-4 run over the final four minutes to earn a 48-40 win on Saturday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears fall to 11-5 (1-3 NESCAC) while the Ephs improve to 12-5 (3-1 NESCAC).

 

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin struggled offensively in the first half but Williams couldn't take advantage, as the Ephs took a 24-13 lead into halftime.
  • Williams shot 36% and got nine points from Maddy Mandyck to take the 11-point edge into the break.
  • The Polar Bears rebounded with a 15-8 third quarter, getting five points from Sela Kay to close the gap to 32-28 following a Jay Duval lay-up entering the fourth.
  • Bowdoin chipped away at tied the game at 34-34 on a Callie Godfrey layup and briefly took the lead on a pair of Sydney Jones free throws, 36-34, with 4:15 remaining.
  • Mia Holtz regained the lead for Williams, sparking a 7-0 run for the Ephs that gave them a 41-36 lead with under two minutes to play.
  • Bowdoin could get no closer than three points for the remainder of the contest as Williams hung on to win.

  • Bowdoin finished at 22% shooting for the game, including 5-23 from long distance, while Williams shot 31% for the contest.
  • Sela Kay finished with ten points to lead the Polar Bears, who got nine points and 11 rebounds from Annie Boasberg.
  • Williams was led by 14 points from Maddy Mandyck.
  • The Ephs owned a 44-37 edge in rebounding in the contest and went 15-20 from the free throw line.
