The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team lost its first double-header of the spring semester at USCAA-member Penn State University- Mont Alto on Friday, March 17.

Game 1: L, 9-6

Both offenses got off to a hot start in the first inning, leaving Mont Alto leading 4-3. The Seawolves scored two in the fifth and one more in the sixth to go ahead 6-5, but surrendered four runs a half-inning later to seal their fate.

As a team, the Seawolves managed six hits and four walks. Sophomore Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico) logged one hit and one run, and sophomore Derek Hoh (Methuen, Massachusetts) contributed one hit and two runs from the lead-off position.

Mont Alto’s Jarett Goodyear finished his day with two hits, three runs and three RBI.

Mont Alto’s Luke Davis was credited the win; SMCC’s Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) was taxed the loss.

Game 2: L, 10-7

The Seawolves kept it tight with Mont Alto throughout, but it was the 5-run blemish in the second inning that proved to be the difference maker.

Both Hoh and first-year Ryan Thurber (South Portland, Maine) combined for four hits and four runs, but it was first-year Dylan Sellinger  (Auburn, Maine) with a perfect game at the plate going 4-4 with all seven of the team’s RBI.

Mont Alto’s Brady Bigler collected three runs, three hits, and three RBI.

Both starters earned decisions. Mont Alto’s Trystan Housman earned the victory and SMCC’s Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa) suffered the loss.

The Seawolves record moves to 6-6 overall.

The teams meet again to finish a 3-game set on Saturday, Mar. 18. The nine-inning contest is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
