Chellie Pingree, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Maine's 1st district since 2009, has shared her perspectives on recent political and energy issues through a series of tweets. The congresswoman addressed topics ranging from energy policies to the events of January 6th.
On January 21, 2025, Pingree tweeted about President Trump's executive order declaring a "national energy emergency." She stated: "One of President Trump’s first Executive Orders was to declare a 'national energy emergency.' Here are the facts: The U.S. now produces more oil and gas than any country in history. The issue isn’t getting more gas and oil out of the ground; it's finding people to buy it!"
In a follow-up tweet on the same day, she continued her critique by stating that "Oil prices often *increase* with production spikes! There is no energy emergency. In fact, burning more fossil fuels only exacerbates the *actual* emergency: climate change. This is all about lining the pockets of Big Oil billionaires."
Later that day, Pingree commented on pardons related to the January 6th events at the Capitol, expressing strong disapproval: "January 6th was one of the darkest days in our nation’s history. To pardon those involved is a shocking dismissal of our justice system, and an insult to the brave heroes who defended the Capitol and the Constitution that day."
