Maine’s First District Congresswoman Chellie Pingree On April 25, hailed the reopening of the Camden Post Office, which had for months been closed without notice to residents. In October 2022, Pingree drew attention to the abrupt disruption to postal operations at the Camden postal facility, calling for better transparency during the renovation project.
“It’s essential that residents, especially those with limited mobility, have access to reliable postal services. I’m thrilled that after months of pushing for answers and transparency about the abrupt closure, the Postal Service has finally reopened its renovated facility, reinstating crucial services for the Camden community,” said Pingree.
"The Camden Post Office is a critical anchor of our downtown and we are overjoyed to have this historic landmark once again open for business,” said Maine State Rep. Victoria Doudera (D-Camden). “In this day when issues can be a bit divisive, I know Camden residents are united: our reopened and refurbished post office gets a heartfelt 'stamp' of approval!"
After the Camden Post Office closed abruptly on September 16, 2022 for renovations, postal operations were transferred to the Postal Office in the town of Rockland indefinitely. Camden is coastal town in Knox County with over 5,000 residents, and almost a third of Camden’s residents are 65 years or older. Due to the Postal Office closure, Camden residents requiring in-person postal services had to travel to the Rockland Post Office, presenting serious difficulties for residents.
