The Bowdoin College men's tennis team bounced back from their first loss of the season to finish out their California spring break trip with a win over Caltech. The 12th-ranked Polar Bears return to Maine with a 7-1 record.
Bowdoin lost to Johns Hopkins 5-4, had to cancel their match vs. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps due to rain, and defeated Caltech 6-3.
Johns Hopkins Match Highlights
- Against Johns Hopkins, Bowdoin trailed 2-1 heading into singles play but almost completed the comeback win.
- Pieter Breuker/Ethan Bradley kept the Polar Bears in contention with their 8-3 win at number two doubles.
- Tristan Bradley (6-4, 6-1), Mark Kneiss (7-6, 6-1) and Ethan Bradley (7-5, 6-2) won their singles matches to put Bowdoin on the brink of the comeback.
- Breuker battled hard at number three singles, but came up just short in a tough-luck 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) decision that gave the Blue Jays the win.
- The Polar Bears fell behind in doubles again against Caltech, as Ethan Bradley and Breuker were the lone winners again, this time by an 8-7 (2) score.
- After the key doubles win, Bowdoin dominated singles play, winning five of six matches to take the decision.
- Tristan Bradley, Reid Staples, Breuker, Kneiss, and Evan Fortier all won in straight-sets to put Bowdoin over the top.
- Bowdoin is off until April 1 when they play at Wesleyan.
