Bowdoin College Olson Named MVP as Men's Track Takes Second at Maine State Meet

The Bowdoin College men's indoor track and field team took an impressive second-place finish at the 2023 Maine State Championship Saturday at Bates College.

 

Bates claimed the title with a team score of 205.5, with Bowdoin second at 185 points. Thanks to a dominant performance on the track, winning two events, Polar Bear Ajay Olson was named the Most Valuable Track Athlete of the championship.

 

Meet Highlights

  • Olson was ruled winner in a photo finish in the 60m (7.03), took a dominant win in 200 (22.41). He also ran the leadoff leg Bowdoin's winning 4x400 team along with Cheng Xing, Adepoju Arogundade, and Max Russo (3:27.59)
  • Russo ran away with the 600m race (1:22.84), winning his heat by nearly four seconds and the finals by more than two.
  • In the distance runs, John Auer ran a strong tactical race in mile, pulled away to win by more than two seconds (4:23.11) while Sam Angevine took control early and cruised to a win in the 3000m (8:47.20).
  • Bowdoin swept the top three places in the 60m hurdles thanks to a winning time of 8.63 from Arogundade with William Warlick (8.69) and Kane Demers (8.84) right behind.
  • Other strong showings included second-place finishes from Xing in the long jump (6.82) and triple jump (12.94), Jared Joyce in the 400m (51.02), and Lars Sorom in the 800m (1:58.43).
