Bowdoin College Women's Track and Field Wins State Meet For First Time Since 2013

The Bowdoin College women's indoor track & field team won its first outright state crown since 2013 at the Maine State Championship Saturday hosted by Bates College.

 

In what was anticipated to be a tight three-way race between the CBB schools, Bowdoin pulled away to finish first with 186.3 points, ahead of Bates (173) and Colby (159.6) in the eight-team field.

 

Meet Highlights

  • Kianne Benjamin was outstanding, claiming the George Towle Award for women's performer of the meet after winning the 60m in a meet-record time of 7.65 and the 200m in a meet and facility-record time of 25.22. Both times vault her into the top-five on the D-III performance lists this winter.
  • Lauren Traum posted a strong win in 1000m by nearly five seconds (3:05.84), a new career-best. She also anchored winning 4x800 team that included Emma Noel, Lex Davis and Emma Barker (9:53.41).
  • Leila Trummel won the 800m in 2:24.18 and finished as runner-up in the mile (5:07.53) by a half-second.
  • Abby Mueller won the 3000m (10:36.67) in her season-debut, a qualifying New England D3 time.
  • In the field events, Charlotte Hodge won the pole vault for the second-straight year (3.60m), this time in a jump-off.
  • Anna yang won long jump (5.18m) on a busy day that included participation in the 60 hurdles, 4x200, and high jump.
  • Other top performances included Ana Gunther's personal best to take second in the 5K (19:06.03) and runner-up finishes in the weight throw by Jada Scotland (14.18m) and shot put by Emma Hargreaves (11.59m).
