Saint Joseph's College of Maine Women Post Pair of Runner-up Finishes at Pleasant Mountain

The Saint Joseph's College women's alpine skiing team posted a pair of runner-up finishes at Pleasant Mountain on Saturday. The Monks opened the day with 11 place points and a 3:40.00 time in a giant slalom race and capped the afternoon with 13 place points and a 6:16.09 team effort in a slalom competition.

GIANT SLALOM:

UMaine-Farmington cruised to victory with nine place points and a 3:36.79 time after placing the top two finishers in Lauren Kessen and Grace Mahmood in the giant slalom opener.

SJC teammates Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) and Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) tied for third with identical 1:13.30 performances.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Junior Courtney Pingree (Marblehead, Mass.) tied for third with a 1:13.30 (37.20, 36.10) time
  • Sophomore Maddie Zordan (New Hartford, Conn.) also tied for third with a 1:13.30 (36.07, 37.23) effort
  • Junior Maeghan Perkins (Turner, Maine) placed fifth with a 1:13.40 (36.22, 37.18) performance
  • Junior Erica Irvin (Windham, N.H.) finished eighth (1:15.11, 37.06 – 38.05)
  • Freshman Sienna Mack (Lincoln, N.H.) was 14th (1:18.50, 39.28 – 39.22)
  • Sophomore Lillian Souweine (Bangor, Maine) placed 18th (1:21.50, 40.06 – 41.44)
SLALOM:

In the slalom race, Saint Joseph's placed second again despite recording the fewest place points (13) as UMF, which posted 14 place points, owned an eight-second aggregate time advantage to claim the victory. The Beavers, led by race-winner Lauren Kessen, recorded a 6:08.39 total time while the Monks tallied a 6:16.09 composite effort.

Kessen notched her second individual victory of the day with a 1:47.61 total time, which was over 15 seconds faster than the 2:02.68 effort posted by the runner-up, SJC's Erica Irvin.

THE RUNDOWN:

  • Irvin found the podium with a second-place finish and a 2:02.68 (59.77, 1:02.91) time
  • Perkins placed seventh with a 2:06.39 (57.31, 1:09.08) effort
  • Mack finished eighth (2:07.02, 1:00.73 – 1:06.29)
  • Zordan posted the second-fastest first-run time (54.87) and placed ninth overall with a 2:12.36 performance
  • Souweine raced to a 15th-place finish (2:23.32, 1:08.64 – 1:14.68)
NEXT!

The Monks are back in action next Saturday with a slalom race at Pats Peak in Henniker, New Hampshire. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM.
