The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team began the season with a 3-1 win over visiting Williams on Friday evening.
The Polar Bears are 1-0-0 (1-0-0 NESCAC), while the Ephs are 0-1-0 (0-1-0 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin had a promising scoring opportunity ten minutes into the first. Brett Stoddard picked off a pass in the zone and fed Allie Britt. Britt wristed a shot from point-blank range that went over the crossbar.
- The Ephs got on the board by capitalizing on a delayed penalty call against Bowdoin. Williams pulled their goalie in favor of a sixth skater and immediately utilized the extra body. Leah Rubinshteyn came onto the ice and skated into the center, receiving a cycling pass from Delaney Szlezyngier. Rubinshteyn continued the puck movement to the left point where Claire Murphy put a shot past Dani Marquez and into net.
- Bowdoin found an equalizer 10:45 into the second period. Abigail Ainley poked the puck off the stick of a defender. Gia Massari collected the free puck on the left post and flipped it up and over Amanda Lackmann.
- The Polar Bears took the lead with 3:08 remaining in the frame. Britt passed the puck back to Anyi Sun on the blue line who shifted the play center to Peyton Mulhern. Mulhern drifted right and fired a shot through traffic.
- Massari added an empty-net insurance goal in the final 13 seconds. Zoe Wilson cleared the puck out of Bowdoin's zone along the left boards to Massari. Massari carried through the neutral zone and slid a shot from just outside the blue line into the Williams net.
