The final regatta of the season was The College Sailing Women's Singlehanded National Championship. Christine Reimer '24 competed for The Janet Lutz Trophy.
Norfolk provided beautiful conditions all weekend. Saturday morning started with a sunny 5-8 knot Southeasterly which built and shifted to a 14-16 knot East Southeasterly. After the first three races, Reimer put herself in the running for a top spot with good boatspeed and solid decision making. A mid day dip brought few unforced errors which resulted in two tough scores. After the 9 races sailed on Saturday, nearly every athlete in the top group had put a last place finish on the scoreboard. A strong end of day put Reimer in a solid position to go into day 2.
Although Sunday's forecast was for very light shifty wind, the Southeast direction held steady at 8-10 knots. The competitive fleet continued racing for another 5 races for a total of 14 over the weekend. A foul early in the first race of the day, forced Reimer to use her speed and everything she learned on Saturday to turn a last into a 12th place finish. A mental reset and return to routine provided an exciting end to the event. Reimer went on to win the next two races and moved her into a solid third place with a play towards second place held by Schiffman of Stanford. The penultimate race, she was able to close the gap from second place to 3 points. Race 14 was close for the first lap around the W4 course with Schiffman winning at the first mark and Reimer in 5th. The top few boats separated ahead of the rest of the fleet and, by the finish line, Reimer moved into 2nd with Schiffman in 4th.
The event concluded with Christine Reimer in third place at College Sailing Women's Singlehanded Nationals. The team is looking forward to the spring season!
