The Colby Women's Soccer Team ended its 2022 campaign with a tie against in-state rivals Bates. The Mules battled the Bobcats in a hard-fought back and forth game earning a draw on a last minute equalizer.
The Mules came out of the gates ready to go with some strong chances putting seven shots on net to the Bobcats three. However, neither team was able to find a goal and the first half ended 0-0.
The second half looked very similar to the first with both teams trading attacks. The game turned chippy as both teams showed their frustration and determination, both teams finished with nine fouls a piece.
Bates struck first with a fast break goal in the 82nd minute but even as time was winding down the Mules stayed tough. They found their equalizer just two minutes later when forward Kaleigh Quinn crossed the ball in from the right wing where Sophie Webb pounded it into the bottom left past the keepers arms. The goal was Webbs fifth of the season and her third in the last two games.
Making her last collegiate appearance for the Mules Webbs goal was even more sweet. Also making their last appearances were Maddie Fisher who started at midfield and Kerrie Verbeek who came off the bench for the Mules.
The future looks bright for Colby with the Mules returning five of their top six goal scorers from this season and a starting eleven that contained four freshmen. They will look to build on the momentum in head coach Tracey Leone's second season.
The tie snapped a 14 game NESCAC losing streak dating back to last season. The Mules finish their season 5-9-1 with a perfect record in non-conference play.
