Colby College (6-8) defeated Saint Joseph's College (10-7), 4-1, in a non-conference field hockey contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sophomore Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine) lifted the Monks to a 1-0 lead with her third goal of the season off a rebound at the 9:30 mark, but the Mules countered with two goals to stake a 2-1 edge at halftime and struck twice more in the second stanza to cap the game scoring.
Casey Winslow netted the equalizer on a Molly Mitchell assist in the 27th minute and Jackie Hill scored the game-winner at the 28:55 mark. Kaitlyn Smith put the visitors up 3-1 in the 51st minute and Winslow potted the game's final goal less than four minutes later.
TEAM STATS:
Colby posted advantages in shots (25-6), shots on goal (21-5), and penalty corners (16-3) in the winning performance.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made 16 saves in the loss while Emily Loeb turned away four shots for the Mules. St. Joe's senior defender Morgan Dalton (Livermore Falls, Maine) also notched her ninth defensive save of the season.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Saint Joseph's is now 1-14 in the history of the series with Colby College.
