Saint Joseph's College of Maine Michaud Nets Hat Trick, Monks Topple Raiders 6-0

Senior Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) scored three goals to help lift Saint Joseph's College (7-8-1, 7-3-1 GNAC) past Rivier University (0-13-1, 0-10-1 GNAC), 6-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks scored three times in a matter of three minutes to put the game away early in the first half. Junior Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone (Winthrop, Maine) kicked off the scoring with her eighth goal of the year on a Nikki Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) feed at the 6:08 mark and Michaud netted her first marker of the night on a Lelia Weir (Bar Harbor, Maine) corner kick barely a minute later. Sophomore Alicen Burnham (Monmouth, Maine) punched home her fourth goal of the season on a Sama Colatruglio (Mahopac, N.Y.) pass in the 10th minute to make it a 3-0 game.

Michaud added her second score of the night after sidestepping a defender with a nifty move in the box in the 21st minute. The 4-0 cushion remained until the 63rd minute, when Michaud capped the hat trick effort on a pass from Burnham. Junior Tatum Hancock (Damariscotta, Maine) closed out the scoring ledger with her third tally of the year with an odd angle shot at the 88:54 mark.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held considerable advantages in shots (38-1), shots on goal (24-0), and corner kicks (11-0) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Both teams split time in net, as junior Carly Downey (Yarmouth, Maine) and freshman Manuela Mejia (Winthrop, Mass.) did not face a shot for the Monks while Maya Puma and Emily Mikelson made nine saves apiece for the Raiders.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 13-2-0 all-time versus Rivier University and has now defeated the Raiders in 10-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2012 season.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will host Regis College on Saturday in a GNAC matchup set to start at 2:30 PM.
