The Bowdoin College volleyball team shook off a first set loss to run away from Bates in a 3-1 victory on Tuesday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 11-7 with their sixth win in their last seven matches. Bates falls to 5-12 with the loss.
Match Highlights
- Bowdoin took the win by set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-12.
- The Bobcats built a 24-20 lead in the opening set before Bowdoin rolled off three straight points to close the gap. Bates clinched the set with a Polar Bear service error to take an early 1-0 advantage.
- Bates sprinted to a 6-1 lead out of the gate in the second set, but that proved to be as good as it would get for the Bobcats as Bowdoin flipped a switch and outscored Bates 74-37 for the remainder of the match.
- Bowdoin rolled off a massive 10-0 run to complete the comeback in a second set win to even the score, took a 4-0 lead and never trailed in the third set en route to a 2-1 advantage.
- The Polar Bears closed it out with an easy win in the fourth, taking an early 6-2 edge and polishing off the night with a 6-0 run to clinch the match with a 25-12 win.
- Bowdoin recorded a season-high 17 service aces, led by six from Joy Liu and four apiece from Jenna Robbins and Lauren Lange.
- Jaida Hodge-Adams paced a balanced Bowdoin attack with ten kills as Robbins and Mary John added nine apiece.
- Ella Haugen had 34 assists and nine digs while Maya White posted a match-high 22 digs for the Polar Bears.
- The win was the seventh straight for Bowdoin over Bates and the 21st in their last 22 meetings dating back to 2009.
- The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday with a non-conference match at Colby at 7:00 p.m.
