Town of North Yarmouth Police Department Please be aware

Please be aware that on Saturday 10/1 during the afternoon and evening hours, vehicles were broken into at the Nan Jones Kimball Playground on North Road as well as the Pratt’s Brook Park parking lot on North Road. During these incidents, property was stolen from within that had otherwise been concealed from view.

As we approach the holiday months, we typically see an uptick in this type of activity. This is a crime of opportunity, and the best solution to prevent it is to remove valuables from your vehicle when you exit. When we respond to these incidents, it’s all too often that we hear, “but this is Yarmouth!” It is true that this is an extremely safe community, but these crimes DO happen here and take seconds to commit. They can have significant financial consequences on those who fall victim to them.

Many times during these incidents, identifying documents are stolen so the suspects can misrepresent themselves as the victims while they perpetrate additional crimes later.

Please take the time to remove valuables from your car prior to exiting! Remember, these are crimes of opportunity, and they can happen ANYWHERE!
