Maine College of Art Meet Our 2022 BOLT Orientation Team

Each year, a great group of Maine College of Art & Design students are motivated to get back to campus early so they can welcome the new crop of students. This team — called our BFA Orientation Leadership Team (BOLT) — reminds us how important a great orientation experience is in helping students start their journey with us from a place of wonder and excitement.

Hello from a few of the amazing students joining us for BOLT:

Bailey Conant (she/her)

Photography major

“Everyone who knows me, knows that I'm always in a good mood and have a smile on my face! Hope you see all of you soon!!!”

Ren Fuchs (they/them)

Textile & Fashion Design major

In their work they enjoy combining aesthetics and embracing campiness. They can often be seen around Portland walking their funny-looking dog.

Milo McNeel (they/them)

Printmaking major

“I’m super excited to be a part of BOLT this year!”

Kane Meinck (they/them)

Animation & Game Art major

“When I’m not drawing, you can find me listening to music and crocheting. I also love playing video games (makes sense) and some of my favorites are Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer and Animal Crossing. Can’t wait to meet you in the fall!”

Kia Pickering (they/them)

Illustration major

“When I’m not at school, you can find me hanging out at Casablanca Comics or grabbing a snack from The Frying Dutchman, Cheese Louise, Flatbread, or Gelato Fiasco! One of my favorite things to do is walk through the Old Port to the waterfront and sit by the ferry terminal!”

Makena Schwab (she/her)

Animation & Game Art major

“When I’m not in the studio, you can see me walking my punky lil Pomsky all around town - if you ever see us out and about feel free to come say hi! I look forward to another amazing year at MECA&D! :D)”

In addition to introducing the College and creating space for connections among incoming students, BOLT members are trained to help new students make sense of their new environment and experience the Portland art scene before classes begin.

We are so grateful to BOLT for preparing an inclusive and welcoming orientation event and facilitating meaningful connections among our newest community members as they start to make Maine College of Art & Design their home!
