Maine College of Art Solo Show for Dylan Hausthor ’15

Solo show for Dylan Hausthor ’15, @dylan.hausthor currently teaching in our Photography major, on view at the Penumbra Foundation NYC @penumbrafoundation

Now through September 10 is your chance to visit the Penumbra Foundation NYC in order to experience the flowers aren’t growing, the eggs are hatching, it’s almost dawn, a solo show by Dylan Hausthor ’15. The incredible exhibition at this renowned photography non-profit showcases mythical representations of storytelling, faith, folklore, systems and characters destined to haunt viewers.

“[T]he narrative power of Hausthor’s images catches the viewer on the threshold of suspension between our beliefs and disbeliefs, and the dense, horizonless forest offers no reassurances,” reads the artist statement.

After graduating from our Photography program, Hausthor received their MFA from Yale School of Art and became a 2019 recipient of a Nancy Graves fellowship for visual artists, runner-up for the Aperture Portfolio Prize, nominated for Prix Pictet 2021, a W. Eugene Smith Grant finalist, 2021 Hariban Award Honorable Mention, 2021 Penumbra Foundation resident, 2023 Light Work resident, and the winner of Burn Magazine’s Emerging Photographer’s Fund. Their work has been shown nationally and internationally, and they have three books in the permanent collection at MoMA.

Hausthor currently teaches in the Photography major at Maine College of Art & Design, is an artist-in-residence at the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, and is a 2022-2023 Lunder Fellow at Colby College. They work teaching ghost hunting, ritual, photography, and mushroom foraging.
