A peek into our Marine Patrol Deputies!!
On 07/30/2022, The Cumberland County Regional Communications Center received a report of a large woods fire on the east shore of Long Reach. Over a 3 day period the Town of Harpswell’s Volunteer Fire Department’s along with The Maine Forest Service, The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Deputies Todd McGee and Steve Welsh, the Town’s Harbormaster and Deputy Harbormaster all responded to the scene. The Town owned Airboat played a critical role in transporting all the Firefighters and the essential gear needed to fight the fire to the remote area. Not only was the area inaccessible by vehicle, at low tide much of the area becomes a mud flat, further complicating matters. The Town’s Marine Patrol Deputies were able to overcome these obstacles with the use of the Airboat, making fighting the fire more manageable for the firefighters.
Great job by all involved!
