Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Responded to South Road Near the Intersection of Ridge Road on Chebeague Island for a Single Vehicle Crash

On March 27, 2022, at approximately 7:52 pm, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to South Road near the intersection of Ridge Road on Chebeague Island for a single vehicle crash. When Chebeague Island Fire Department responders arrived at the scene, they observed a Buick station wagon partially in the ditch with a 37-year-old male unconscious inside of the vehicle. The 37-year-old male was operating a green 1994 Roadmaster northbound on South Road and left the roadway right at a slow rate of speed at which point the vehicle stopped in a ditch causing very minor damage if any.

The 37-year-old male was extricated from the vehicle by Chebeague Island Fire Department personnel and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

NOTE: The identity of the 37-year-old male is being withheld at this time until proper next of kin notifications can be made.

The Chebeague Island Fire Department assisted the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. South Road was closed for approximately 3 hours during the on-scene investigation. 

This incident remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Details in reference to this investigation will be released as appropriate.
