85 percent of applicants to the University of Southern Maine were admitted for fall 2018

At the University of Southern Maine, 71 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 58 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Portland enrolled 8,140 students in fall 2018, including 6,390 in undergraduate and 1,750 in graduate programs, data shows. 11.1 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

81 percent of undergraduates are residents of Maine, and 18 percent are residents of other states.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (71 percent) and Black or African American (6 percent).

The school admitted 85 percent of the 4,254 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 26 percent enrolled.
